Therapy can help us give language to different events, as so much of what we experience goes unsaid, unnamed, or unacknowledged. We were “just there” or it “just happened” to us. Research has shown that when we lack language for an experience, we’re unable to learn from it. Put differently, it can be made more difficult to heal if we’re unable to make out the details of our hurt.

Our goal is help you access the joy, calm, and motivation that is already within you, but may get blocked due to experiences of trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, or depression. Together we will figure out your roadblocks, identify unhelpful behavioral patterns, and incorporate functional strategies that will improve your feelings of safety and comfort as you move through the world.

As a boutique therapy practice, we offer unparalleled attention and specialized care to each and every client. We keep clinician caseloads low so that we may consistently provide high-quality service, accommodate additional appointment requests if you need extra support, and complete all forms, letters (such as for gender-affirming surgery), and other paperwork you may need a healthcare provider to fill out completely free of charge.

We are uniquely cognizant of the ways medical records have been used against oppressed populations and take great care to protect your privacy with all required documentation. For this reason, we offer both diagnostic and non-diagnostic forms of care.

Finding a therapist who aligns with your values can be challenging—especially for individuals existing at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. Our providers offer a warm processing space where you will receive culturally competent psychoeducation, gentle guidance, and experiential exercises to facilitate deepened insight around your values, core beliefs, and goals. Therapy is hard work, but we believe it can also be a place to play and explore who you are, how you are, and what you want out of your life. Our aim is to create a sacred space where you are empowered to get curious about your own experience and identity without being judged.

Treatment Options

We offer a stylized, hybrid, and eclectic blend of cognitive, behavioral, and somatic therapies. Our providers can support your healing journey utilizing techniques from both traditional and modern talk therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Exposure Therapy.

If you have not seen success with these types of therapies, you and your provider may consider integrating brain-based, bottom-up therapies, such as Brainspotting or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

We deeply value client input as to what has and has not worked in the past, and we never regiment treatment based solely on diagnosis.

You will collaboratively determine with your clinician which interventions are effective, sustainable practices you can feel confident in maintaining even after treatment ends.

Insurance

We are an out-of-network provider, meaning we can provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement to your insurance company. Please check with your plan provider to clarify what reimbursement would look like for you: Many private insurances will reimburse up to 80% of the fee.

Fees

What does getting started look like?

First, we will complete a free 20 minute phone consultation. This is required to make sure both parties feel good about moving forward in this intimate work together. It’s important that you feel good about working with us, and that we feel confident our style and specialties match up with your concerns. We are happy to offer referrals if we are not able to meet your needs.

If there’s agreement, you and your provider will identify a standing session time at a weekly or bi-weekly cadence. We can typically offer an appointment within three weeks from the date of consultation.

What can I expect during my intake?

We utilize a narrative intake rather than the Western standard of a deficit-model biopsychosocial evaluation. This choice was intentionally made to provide respite to folks who have not felt heard, seen, or valued as a result of racist and ableist medical pathologizing language. We hope that you use the space to reflect on past therapy experiences, communicate goals for treatment, and to paint us a picture of the mosaic of you!

Intakes are standard time and rate. We use intake to review policies, answer questions you may have, and start the process of getting to know you.
